Ryan Flynn knew what was right, not what the law said, not what the generals dictated, not what the Indian agents proclaimed with their lies and cheating, and he knew than many Apaches were not only great warriors, but honorable men of their word...and he fought for them, married into the tribe, and never, never quit.
Savages edition by Robert Vaughan Literature Fiction eBooks
This book kept my attention from start to finish. It follows the adventures of Ryan Flynn, a calvary officer turned goldminer. He is robed, beaten and left for dead, but is instead found by an Apache woman who helps him, takes care of him and gets him back on his feet. She takes him back to her tribe where he meets Geronimo. In this reading, Geronimo is not at the height of his time; instead, it happens during a period near the end of his reign where he is fighting to return to his homeland. You get to see the Old West from Apache eyes at the end of their way of life, and it left me with a greater appreciation for their struggle. Definitely an interesting read and it comes with my recommendation.Product details

Savages edition by Robert Vaughan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I just recently discovered Robert Vaughan and can't believe I've missed this award winning author until now. In the 4 Vaughan books that I've read so far, he masterfully weaves entertaining fiction around American history. In addition to being an outstanding western "Savages" is a compassionate look at Geronimo and the end of the proud Apache way of life.
This was a very good book, it kept me interested all the way thru the book, for the price of this book, you can't go wrong, course I only buy in , so I went and ordered some more of these books by this Author. If you enjoy reading Western's then you will be glad you bought this book.
Easy reading with a touch of history. Other reviews cover the essence of the plot. I want to point out that the kindle version that I read fails to hyphenate words that are continued on the next line. The breaks in the words are done correctly but the reader gets no clue that the first letter group on the next line is not a word. It's the end of a word. It's disruptive. Even at that, it was a heck of a bargain at a buck.
This starts out as a novel about a former cavalry officer mining for gold. After finding some he is robbed and left for dead. An apache maiden finds him during her coming of age journey, nurses him back to health and brings him to the apache reservation where he meets her brother, geronimo. They follow a few more adventures of the soldier and then most of the book becomes a book about Geronimo and his strjggle to return to Arizoma. A very good read, lots of fighting, some romance and many rip off artists in the old west.....shu
Makes me ashamed of what my ancestors did. How could we have been so cruel and mean spirited. And some of them even call themselves Christians.
but fairly described I suspect. We have a gold prospector beaten, robbed and left to die by a so called preacher. An indian maid doing the rite of becoming a woman and saving the prospector, taking him to her village. The prospector being accepted by the village and falling in love with the maiden. The usual indian fight against dishonest agents, treaties broken but leaning to the Apache for the wrong doings by the whites. The book is well written and deserves a read. The characters, particularly the Apaches are presented with their emotions for family, a way of life and constant deceit by the US gov't.
I could only give the book one star as I could not finish reading it. Having been a white school teacher on the Dine (Navajo) reservation back in the decade of the 90`s, I developed a deep compassion for these peaceful people who, like many other tribes, only did what they believed was right. It is with great sadness to revel in the knowledge of what our Anglo forefathers did in the name of Manifest Destiny.
Mr. Vaughan`s book, Savages, stirred up my emotions to the point where I had to stop reading it. I love westerns but would rather read about gunfighters and cattle wars. But if you want to read a story that is along the lines of Dances with Wolves, then you might enjoy this book.
